Alright, well it seems some people really arent the best when it comes to buying and selling gear. So hopefully this thread might help a few of you. Some of the stuff i took from the TechPB video about it, but most of it is just common sense.
Hopefully this will help people sell locally, online, and internationally. Sorry for the poor organization.
Local (also related to buy/selling online) :
SELLING
Asking Prices
- Whenever you are trying to sell something, make sure you have a price posted. A lot of people (including myself) dont like to offer prices. Also, this can cut down on lowballs.
- Never post "id like $XX.XX but i'll go as low as $YY.YY
- Know what your product is worth. Look around and see what similar items are going for.
- ALWAYS start of asking for a little more than you want. By doing this it allows you to lower your price causing people to believe they are getting a much better deal than they actually are, and you might get luckly and get more that you were hoping for.
- When selling something locally, prices can be a little more, or a little less than you would want online depending. If someone offers you a little less than you got online, take it. It saves a lot of trouble and its keeping products local. However, you can increase the price a little if you can convince someone that its saving them the trouble of buying it online. All depends on who is interested.
Other Tips
- Always have pictures taken and posted of what you are selling. It shows you are prepared, and pictures really help sell items.
- Dont be a ******. If you act immature or rude it really turns people off. Theres a fine line between making rules and being an ass about them. Be nice.
- Know your product. Its never good when someone asks you a question and you dont know the answer.
- State any problems or cosmetic damage with the gun. Dont lie and pretend its working, and make sure the buyer knows exactly what they are getting.
- Original boxes, stickers, labels, and anything else that comes with the gun are nice to keep. If you get a barrel condom and some stickers with something, dont use them. Put them away. When you go to sell it makes the marker appear as if the marker has very little use and that its well taken care of.
- Make sure the equipment is clean for pictures, and before you sell it. It will help it sell and it will help with repeat buyers.
- Always make the deal sound better than it is. Mention it comes with stickers, o-rings, screws, anything. You can also compare the product to lesser quality products for the same price.
- Keeping in contact with people is always important. Also try to avoid backing out on a deal becuase someone becuase someone offered you more.
- Let the person try the gun/gear before they buy it. So then if they break it, you know that it was them, and you cant get the blame.
BUYING
- DO NOT BACK OUT ON A BUYER LAST MINUTE! If you have to for a good reason let the person know well before you are suppose to buy it. I have been screwed over becuase some kid said he was going to buy something from me, so i waited for 2 hours, kid didn't show up. Didn't bother to tell me his mom wouldn't let him get it so i was out $200. Not cool.
- Ask for pictures, and to try the product before you buy it. This way, you wont go home, try it, and find out its broken and be stuck with a POS becuase the guy said it was your fault.
- Shop around. See what other people are selling similar items for. Know the value. And if a bunch of extras are offered, dont be sucked in. Actually see what they are worth and if its worth the extra bit of cash over another one.
- Stay in contact with the person. Dont say you'll buy it then stop talking to them until you are suppose to get it, to find out its sold.
- Dont ever threaten to buy something from someone else because its cheaper. Its a turn off and it will backfire.
- DO NOT SAY STUPID STUFF LIKE "if you have it in 5 months i'll buy it"
BUYING ONLINE
- Same as when selling online, look around for prices. Chances are you'll find a better deal. But dont threaten to buy elsewhere as i guarantee its not going to work unless the guy has a high asking price on purpose
- Look for people such as mods/admins, shop owners, pro players, offical techs, etc. You are much less likely to get scammed, and you will probably get a better deal.
- Look for feedback, and make sure its legit. Talk to the guys who bought/sold him/her stuff first. Make sure the feedback isnt fake, or just the guys friends. Local feedback and feedback from online deals is VERY differnt.
- Ask for pictures, and videos, perferable wher the guy has his or your username in the picture so you know: #1 he actually has the marker. #2 It was recently take and works.
- Pictures of the package with your address, and a copy of the shipping reciept are always nice to have as well.
- Ask for home phone numbers, and any other personal information...just in case.
- Avoid shipping first. However, when you are buying something normally you will ship first anyway
- Paypal is the safest way to go. MO and COD are ok, but neither garuntee your money.
- Same time shipping and third party shipping is always a good idea to think about.
- Make sure the product is insured for what it is worth. If it gets lost or broken you will recive the money. Also make sure you get a tracking number and confirm it (often takes up to 24 hours)
- Keep in contact. When the deal goes quick and smooth, there is a better chance of him throwing in something extra. And also leaving good feedback.
- Stay in contact afterwards for awhile and make sure you leave each other feedback. The more people that can vouche for you and the better they have to say the more likely it is for deals with others to go smoothly and in your favor.
- IF THE DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE CHANCES ARE IT IS!!!
SELLING ONLINE
Most of this is the same as if you were selling locally
- Look at the local for the pricing tips. They can all be applied to selling online
- Pictures with your username, and videos saying your username are always great.
- Keep the original box. Makes it seem newer, and it gives you something to ship the marker in thats the perfect size.
- Stay in contact, provide shipping information, and contact information.
- MAKE SURE YOU WRAP THAT ITEM UP GOOD! Make sure its well producted from being dropped, shaken, getting wet, and nuclear warheads.
- Quick responses, being prepared for questions, and just being overall nice are always important.
- Dont flame people for lowballs and the like. It will cause a bad impression, and turn others away
- Dont try to make your gun sound amazing. People feel you are forcing them to buy it, and treating them as if they dont know what they are buying.
INTERNATIONAL BUYING/SELLING
-NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER mark a package as anything "paintball" "marker" "gun" or anything else like that. It is sporting equipment. Nothing more
- Be prepared to deal with customs. Know there may be a fee, that shipping might take longer than expected, and marking it as a gift doesn't always work.
- Basically everything else is the same as dealing online and locally.
Any questions about customs or anything else feel free to post or PM me
For anyone who read all of that, thanks for your time and i hope it helped
