For someone considering getting into airsoft, what recommendations would you make for equipment? Don't worry about prices, the most important factors are reliability, accuracy and efficiency.

A good pair of boots, quality BDU's and some gloves.
You don't want to break the bank when you're just starting out, you want to make sure that airsoft is something you like and will enjoy in the long run. You work your way up after that.

I usually wear a pair of sturdy hunting boots for playing paintball so I was thinking I would use those. I was wondering more about markers/guns (I'm not sure what you call them in airsoft)?
I'm guessing clothing wise you wouldn't want to wear anything overly padded like paintball clothing or else you wouldn't feel the BB's hit you?

For guns, it's really up to what you want to use. I have branched off in a whole slew of different directions, from an M249, a SCAR-L, an AK-103 all the way to an MP40. If you are heading to a game I'm going to sometime and want to see what some of mine are like, all you have to do is ask. I'd be more than happy to show you what they're like and you can fire it as much as you want.
It really doesn't matter what you would wear, even with the padding you would hear the round hit and you would be surprised how much of a punch some of the weapons hit.
They are called 'Guns' in airsoft, such as AEG = Automatic Electric Gun.

We have a good selection of Top Tech guns in stock. These are some of the best markers on the market especially for the price. They may not be as good as some of the $1000 guns on the market but they are definitely up there. We also carry replacement and upgrade parts due to arrive next month.
I will also being doing a G&G Tech Course (taught by G&G) so we will be certified to work on these markers.
AEG is definitely the way to go for most markers. Unless you are looking for a shotgun/sniper style they are going to be far more reliable and can be used much more effectively in cold weather. They are also cheaper in the long run.
If you ever plan to drop out to an open game you can try out a few of our rentals if you want to get an idea.
